Austin joined MDP in 2015 to spearhead a new marine wholesale program with the moniker, Compass Marine Programs. With a family background in the marine industry, Austin has always had an interest in marine and vessels. After graduating from Virginia Tech, he worked in sales for a large mega yacht chandlery where he learned the ins and outs of a vessel’s needs and gained a fuller understanding of the maritime landscape. He transitioned into the insurance field when he joined Axiom Insurance Management and held a position as the Senior Commercial Marine Liabilities Underwriter and wholesale marine broker. Austin worked at Axiom for five years, and it was there that he recognized the need for a more visible platform for commercial and recreational marine risks. As a marine expert and enthusiast, Austin brings a well-rounded approach to the marine insurance industry.
Austin currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia with his wife and daughter. He has as passion for the beach, New England sports, Hokies football, playing competitive softball, golf, and spending time with his family. He also enjoys advancing the marine community wherever possible and currently sits on the board of the Atlanta Mariners Club.
Galveston Historical Foundation once struggled to find insurance representatives who not only appreciated historic buildings and vessels, but also understood the complexities of owning and managing these valuable treasures. Following Hurricane Ike in 2008, MDP and the National Trust Insurance Services proved their value and commitment. We now enjoy almost ten years of service and have the confidence of a comprehensive insurance package that we review annually. This confidence allows us to do what we do — interpreting and stewarding these nationally recognized historic properties—and MDP and NTIS to do what they do—service a customer with loyalty and an eye for cost efficient insurance coverage.
